[Music] all right and here we are with another
0:07
two STW hello thank you for joining us we're
0:13
tning yeah get that hair in there I mean get that hair out of
0:18
there jurious hair yeah um welcome to another two straws
0:26
brought to you by dual bits in Beyond limits beyond all limits
0:33
Beyond if you uh saw all our posts this weekend you would have played our
0:38
free-to-play game and you would be happy because I picked some winners yeah you did Angela
0:45
did not I didn't but unfortunately uh just forgot to bring the ingredients for
0:50
the Ortega Cortez cocktail two week in a row I think I need to start uh writing
0:56
things down my memory is slipping me in my old list all your all your ingredients for
1:03
the cocktail all your bells and whistles you promised me I know oh sorry I can't
1:09
wait I I really want to see what you come up with I'm excited too I have some ideas I'm I'm scared be nasty as I'm
1:17
scared but excited um so yeah if you guys don't know every every week we've
1:23
been uh making our picks for the fights I picked uh L by early stoppage
1:30
and I picked jopa by submission and it it backfired because I was just being [Β __Β ] when I did
1:38
that but the ctin is backfired and Verna did win by submission it was it was
1:44
pretty impressive beautiful submission in fact dude uh one that our our lovely
1:49
Jess has also hit in fights before I really I love I love transitioning from
1:56
the back to an armar yeah it is espec because in MMA it's just a little bit
2:02
easier to um stall out defend uh submission attempts especially from the
2:08
r naked choke uh later in the rounds as you go it gets a little bit more challenging as well like slipperiness
2:14
yeah but um I love it it's it's Sneaky it's fast and it's really effective it
2:19
catches people really off guard as it did for limos yeah it I've been hit with it before by uh that girl that we
2:27
shouldn't even talk about Randa Randa where is
2:33
she where is that girl now Randa where you at like let us know you're okay but
2:39
uh I'm still blocked so I oh I don't even know why I still don't
2:44
know why I'm probably blocked too that whole group blocked me after the show and I wasn't even like yeah I thought we
2:51
were cool I thought we were too and then at the the last day they wouldn't sign my jersey yes and I was like oh how long
2:59
has this been going on yeah right I I got signatures I got a signature from
3:04
Jojo I Got a signature from someone else um that I was like oh they're not
3:09
signing people's stuff so I was like okay I'm cool like they still like
3:15
me maybe my little episode at the postf fight dinner made them not like me
3:24
anymore but uh yeah Randa it made me like you even more yeah
3:30
okay I want to be her friend she's fun especially when she's drunk she's a character I've been going
3:38
to bed way too early and missing all the fun stuff yeah I was drinking the whole
3:43
show did you see that one guy they were like oh man this guy's yes I was just going to say that oh yeah I mean I
3:50
started drinking because I lost my first fight on tough um if you guys didn't know we were talking about
3:57
tough we kind of we kind of assumed everyone knew what we were talking about but um yeah I I was drinking on the show
4:04
after I knew I had no um chance of
4:09
winning like well here goes my sorrows Down the Hatch um but there's a guy on
4:16
TP now that is still in the competition and people are saying that he was getting drunk every day yeah so this is
4:23
kind of weird because we have you know seven eight weeks of filming The Ultimate Fighter and they really focus
4:29
in on on story lines so I don't know what the actual reality of the situation
4:35
is but they are definitely I mean it's definitely a thing because they have footage of it and people are talking
4:40
about it but they create these these storylines and so I I don't know how
4:46
serious it is but they're making it look like he may have a little problem yeah
4:51
like I I saw um video of Valentina shevchenko defending her no water policy
4:57
and it kind of sounds more normal then they made it seem like on the show oh yeah they made her sound like she was
5:05
a yeah say it say it I don't want to say it say it I stopped myself water
5:11
Nazi no water for you no um yeah they made it seem like she was just really
5:19
bad at allowing people to drink but it when she defended herself it sounded like she was just mad people kept taking
5:25
bathroom breaks in the middle of practice um so yeah you don't know what
5:30
the storyline could have actually been in reality but it seemed like he was having little cocktails putting little
5:37
alcohol in his water bottle doing all sorts of stuff that doesn't seem good
5:43
for fight Camp doesn't seem good for Recovery it's hard for your muscles to
5:49
repair when you're drinking all the time so I was just doing um an an only found
5:54
live on Friday after sparring with with our friend cat after spar sorry I look
6:01
great how that go I look great yeah also in my feelings that was a rough one oh
6:07
no they're like cry for the dollars cry on those
6:14
titties I wipe my tears with some dollars but you got to give them to me so much more soothing oh man but if
6:22
somebody asked what's the what's the main thing that I miss during fight camp
6:28
and I mean I'm I'm not that big so I don't have to necessarily deprive myself especially you know training picking up
6:34
the intensity right you know you burn calories like crazy but I've noticed
6:40
especially with my my aura ring uh keeping me in check and it gives me you know the the Sleep status numbers and
6:45
Recovery I've noticed on the nights that I I have wine which I I drink wine like every night bissio oh my goodness you
6:55
okay you need a tissue need a little break sniff it up I'm good get up there let's go let's do this but I've I've
7:02
noticed that there is a huge um dip in my recovery if I have a glass of wine at
7:09
night especially during fight camp this is you know really important so I I miss the wine during that time and if he's
7:16
drinking every single night even if it's just a little bit it affects your real sleep it affects basically everything
7:23
yeah and and I think everyone's different but I definitely feel a difference when I cut out alcohol
7:30
um I I usually do it towards the last like three or four weeks of Camp just to make sure every training I'm getting my
7:37
full bounce back from sleeping and everything but a lot of people it's also
7:43
hard to just have one like you're saying you have trouble sleeping when you have a glass of wine a lot of people have a
7:51
bottle I mean I can get down with the bottle too if I'm not if I'm not paying attention ex not holding myself
7:57
accountable if you're super thirsty like and it's easy to have one drink and go ah I could do one more and then after
8:05
that second drink it's a lot easier to say I could do one more and then I mean
8:11
and you're so sad and you're calling you know Uber Eats or or Postmates to get
8:16
you another yeah and Fighters aren't aren't known for having good impulse control so it's one of the superpowers
8:25
yes we just go with it just [Β __Β ] go with the feeling we got that [Β __Β ] it mhm
8:32
MH and yeah I hope I hope he's all right but I I haven't really been following the show so I don't even know if he's F
8:39
little stuff like that little story lines like that kind of you know Peak my attention and I feel like I have to do a good a good binge watch to catch up yeah
8:47
and see where we're at because I think there there are some you know good fights happening there's some good stuff and I mean I I'm a fan of Alexa Gro and
8:55
chevchenko so I'd like to see them as coaches and see a little bit more like personal you know side of them rather
9:03
than what we just see you know prepping for a fight yeah I I found that the
9:08
little bit of Clips I saw of ship tanko push me either one way or another
9:14
okay I'll go man she's a horrible coach or I'll go wow she looks insane but I
9:20
like it you know well that's the magic of reality TV you know they they create the story lines and it's not like she's
9:26
not seeing or doing these things but the context in which they they edit everything really makes you know really
9:34
sways somebody's opinions one way or the other yeah isn't that clip to you the other day where she goes we always
9:41
learn if we stop learning we [Applause] die that's amazing I love that quote
9:50
it's real though especially with the smile and the wide eyes like when we stop learning we
9:56
die like okay CH Jen goes legit I like her I like her a lot yeah yeah yeah it
10:03
was fun but anyway um we have to go back to that amazing armar by Verna you know
10:11
what I was really upset about with the whole come up and it's to be expected I
10:19
was really upset with the comments on every social media about the main event
10:26
and how it sucked it didn't suck I mean now that it happened yeah it
10:31
didn't suck but when they booked it everyone was either making fun of vna's
10:38
looks or making fun of limon's looks or you need to get over it or saying that
10:44
female Fighters don't belong in the UFC or they should have their own League or all these other things and there was one
10:51
particular guy on the card who had maybe the most [Β __Β ] performance of every
10:59
everyone and he had the nerve to say in one of his postf fight interviews that
11:04
he doesn't watch women fights he goes to the toilet or gets a snack
11:11
well he needs to be watching the Grapplers because he can't grapple for
11:16
[Β __Β ] taking some notes taking some notes from your girl V watch all of vna's fights go back watch Tatiana Suarez
11:25
watch how people defend takedowns like go back and watch I don't know who was
11:30
this this uh gentleman offender his name was it started with a rad I remember
11:38
that because I was like that's not very rad at all oh radov yes radab he took on Ogden
11:47
he took on Ogden it was very much you know what I actually was definitely cooking in the kitchen when that fight
11:53
went on I don't remember it at all hey at least you making a sandwich so he can't be too bad steak potatoes that's
11:59
cook and gra her birthday dinner ooh nice see y'all need to wife her up she
12:05
makes that for her dog imagine what she'd make for
12:10
you that's the commercial right there as long as they're not at the dog
12:16
house hey you'll be sleeping on the um yeah I don't know on the
12:22
couch if you're allowed on it um yeah uh that guy needs to watch some
12:31
female fights for sure because he could take some notes on how to stand up how
12:37
to uh defend a takedown how to sprawl a little bit how to not go wide with your
12:43
elbows every time you throw a punch oh it was it was a really uh it was very
12:49
much a Striker versus Grappler type of fight but Ogden just had a little more
12:54
in the Striking Department than he had in the grappling department and I it was actually pretty close because there were
13:03
moments where Ogden was on top he was
13:08
trying to get the submission but at the same time radov um would throw more punches in the
13:15
stand up he would land more on the standup and it was really just a tossup of what the judges were looking for I
13:22
think Ogden got closest to finishing the fight in two of the rounds at least so
13:27
they gave it to Ogden but he looked like a fish out of water with his back on the ground it was really surprising for
13:35
someone who talks such a big game about uh how Superior men are at fighting well
13:43
sometimes the universe has its way of of humbling you in the best ways possible the universe is Ogden and he sat on his
13:52
ass he don't he's his own constellation now yeah and I thought it was cute the whole um the whole time he was trying to
13:59
set up one of his submissions they were talking about Mother's Milk the mother's milk submission oh
14:05
God so I thought that was pretty ironic yes you got a full dose of Humble
14:11
Pie yes a full dose we should uh we should break that one down too absolutely the mother's milk submission
14:17
is a really nice one I feel like if uh if Rad's shoulders were just a little bit smaller Al them would have been able
14:24
to cinch that up all right all right I'll have to go back and watch it yeah yeah it was it was a good one for for
14:30
the Humble Pie aspect um but going back to Verna versus lmos how did you see the
14:37
fight going after the first round so initially I was I was a little bit concerned about the the the range
14:45
management of limos but um but I I quickly went into oh no I'm winning this
14:51
bet um as soon as V like I blinked and Verna like blast double-legged her took her down and just started working so I
14:58
was pretty confident that viia was going to be able to repeatedly take her down
15:03
again she's she's so methodical she's really methodical very uh very impressed
15:10
with her decisions and I the critique I would make for lios is she was kind of
15:15
trying to Jiu-Jitsu with vierna yeah when she would explode that's where she
15:21
had the advantage because she's you know big strong explosive powerful fighter
15:26
and so she would create some explosion but then she wouldn't run out she would
15:32
kind of re-engage and I mean to vus credit she was pulling her back in and making those adjustments so I I thought
15:40
it was uh just extremely impressive I I really like vus Jiu-Jitsu um I I love
15:46
the fact that even though you know she does have a little bit of a striking deficit you know her strikes are for the
15:52
takedown to set things up um I think that she you know uses her abilities extremely well M it was funny seeing her
16:01
timing in this one especially that first round uh like you said lamos was Finding
16:07
range she was throwing some stuff up but as soon as she switched stance that's
16:13
when Vera shot in and then you could see when she was going to shoot in on the next one because limos has a Cadence
16:20
where she looks she faints she faints and then maybe she resets to try to get another read on stuff and that's when
16:27
Vera would shoot in and get get underneath her um the first round uh she got a clean takeown and limos she does
16:36
that mistake that we were talking about or that you were talking about last week where you get hungry for that ging
16:42
finish and you jump for it she did it when we fought when I fought limo she jumped for the guillotine I ended up
16:48
passing and almost well maybe not almost but I was setting up a Von flu they were
16:53
the commentators were like she's not setting up a Von flu I was setting up a Von flu I was I knew what I was doing I
16:59
had that hand and I was like I'm not letting it go you keep that over my head but uh she jumps through that Guillotine
17:06
she must get it in training she got it against Michelle Waton and when she did
17:11
that in this fight she ended up just giving up that whole position not being
17:16
in a position where she could fight to get back to her knees to get up um and Vera just took advantage of her and I
17:22
was impressed with lem's grappling with the counter stuff she was rolling for
17:27
leg foot stuff foot locks and and trying to make it weird on the ground I think
17:33
that's what loopy tried to do against Vera as well just tried to make it weird on the ground and not let Vera settle
17:40
and sit on you for the whole round but she still wasn't able [Music]
17:46
to uh disengage she wasn't able to get away and once you're in there long
17:52
enough with Vera you realize this is a huge energy drain and this girl could clamp on you all day it doesn't doesn't
17:59
matter if vna's on top or on bottom she's happy and that's what you saw in the second round she goes for that
18:05
takedown I feel like limos might have tried to do like that kickover thing
18:10
that you're good at and just ended up falling in a weird position Vera's underneath her but she's still in
18:17
control of the grapple situation and that back take was so impressive yeah
18:22
how the [Β __Β ] did she do that she just kept helding on did she she like went
18:27
for some weird [Β __Β ] clamped up her leg took her back that was crazy yeah she just held on she just uh she was really
18:34
good at backpacking and um staying tight and reading limo's movements and
18:40
figuring out where she was going to go cuz because again like somebody who is explosive you can kind of feel them
18:47
leveling up their energy and when they're going to go and it was just a matter of time before um via was going
18:53
to start getting ahead of her and and capitalizing on you know the this small
18:59
I don't want to say mistakes but just uh she has so much scram yeah she just has
19:05
so much experience and and body awareness that you know she just feels things differently yeah and so it was it
19:12
was fun to watch as you know somebody who loves grappling um I definitely took
19:17
some notes and I would love to break down that um that armar finish from the back yeah we have to break down the back
19:24
Tak too cuz I'm still like what the [Β __Β ] like how did she do that
19:29
that um yeah so we'll have to break down that armar but what did you think about
19:35
the fight before that which was sing Wu Choy versus Steve
19:43
Garcia suu suu Choy versus Steve Garcia
19:48
Steve Garcia I had to look twice at what weight class these guys are in cuz they
19:56
were bigest I thought we were watching a welter weight fight no they were big guys two big old six foot tall
20:04
featherweights so this fight it it's um I I think it was kind
20:10
of a theme for this whole card was that the the brawler type fighter can
20:18
take the more technical refined Striker out of their game and they can win this
20:23
is uh we saw it a couple times in different fights but that's exactly what Garcia did he
20:29
he found his opening and just started like charging with a barrage of punches
20:35
and it put Choy back on his on his back heel and it just didn't give him any time to recover yeah and that's what I'm
20:41
noticing as you know the more I watch fights the more I'm trying to you know break down fights and technique
20:47
sometimes you just you just don't technique you just got to go you just got to go you just got to hit that [Β __Β ] it and you just got to go forward and
20:54
throw like the 38 punch com uh combination that was landed unanswered eded in TKO earlier in the night mhm
21:02
yeah um it's just it's just one of those things where you can um take somebody out of their game and you can you can
21:08
beat them in that way yeah especially the Korean Fighters right but
21:14
uh it's it was a weird one because these guys are so big I think
21:22
um maybe with both of them they're used to having a little more range they're
21:27
used to being able to play on the outside a bit more but all of a sudden
21:32
you're in that range and they're in that range at the same time so you see two
21:38
big guys just kind of throwing at each other and just trying to see what happens and when you watch Steve
21:44
Garcia's warm-up video he's hitting hard like he is cracking those pads and you
21:53
can almost feel the thud that comes from this guy's arms like he has the nice
21:58
long lengthy arms he seems like he has really good boxing really knows how to get the weight behind his punches so
22:05
even in a wild flurry he still has his hip torquing he still has his shoulders
22:11
moving and that's a scary thing to get caught up in it really is um a 5050
22:19
chance that you're going to either get dropped or drop the person but if you've if you're more comfortable in those
22:26
situations then you might be okay so the technical Striker will kind of
22:33
close their eyes and just be like ah let me just punch so I can exit and the
22:38
brawler will just bite down on their mouthpiece and go all right let's go
22:43
let's see who drops first yeah and that's exactly what happened and I mean I'm I think I need to start taking a a
22:51
page out of their little notebooks and just hitting that um that move forward
22:56
button because that I'm definitely seeing a pattern with people being taken out of their game people on paper that
23:03
you know have a little bit more Precision a little bit more precise and Christmas to their uh crispness to their
23:08
punches are getting overwhelmed and put on their heels so that they can't execute their game plan MH it's like
23:14
when we watch a bear knuckle and you see that there's no we'll talk about it
23:20
later we'll talk about it later but it's like when we watch be knuckle and we see
23:26
that you can get away with aggression just because the sting is so bad like
23:33
the sting will take you out of your element so fast because there's no glove
23:41
there's no padding you're just feeling knuckle on face so your brain doesn't work in the same way as it does when
23:47
you're feeling a glove when you're just feeling a thud you're not feeling that crack you're not feeling that that maybe
23:54
fracture the swelling the blood rushing to every spot that gets hit and it's a very different feeling when
24:00
you get hit with bare knuckle as opposed to getting hit with a glove and I think the UFC gloves especially are [Β __Β ]
24:09
thin and hard like I got a pair this weekend I guess cuz I just signed a
24:14
fight so I finally got a pair of the new gloves and let me tell you you feel everything in them like I I hit pads
24:22
with them uh the other day and I could feel every knuckle that connected
24:28
I can feel okay hitting with my last two knuckles got to turn my fist over a
24:34
little better so I can hit with my first two Knuckles um I can feel the entire pad just crack and then my pad holder
24:42
Adam coach Adam he could fill it too and these are in the little stiff tiny pads
24:48
that are supposed to take a lot of punishment so the fact that he can fill my Knuckles through those gloves means
24:55
that someone's face is really going to fill them and these guys are a lot bigger than me so it's the same amount
25:00
of padding they don't do thicker padding for the higher weight classes it's the same little thin piece of memory foam or
25:07
whatever it is uh in those gloves and those things they got to hurt so it
25:12
might be brawler brawler time with the new gloves on just because you get so much reward for going at it noted I mean
25:21
we had we had a uh we had a KO or TKO this weekend I
25:27
think it was Al alio um he he took two hooks yeah doho
25:34
Choy yeah he took two hooks to the head and then he turned and looked and I'm like broken orbital it's got to be right
25:39
or I mean it doesn't have to be but that's what I assumed it to be and I mean just hearing what you're saying
25:45
about those gloves being you know so so minimal they are very minimalist they're
25:50
they're going to be chipping away at those bones pretty easily so yeah that's definitely something to be aware of and
25:57
uh adjust too yeah it feels like there's just enough padding in there to make sure that my hand doesn't break when I
26:03
break the person's face just enough turn over turn them over it's not made for the person's
26:10
safety that's getting hit that's for sure um yeah that that was a really
26:17
interesting thing I saw throughout the fight too and maybe it is an adjustment to these gloves into the reactions that
26:24
people are getting now after a few fight cards because I I feel like the first fight card
26:31
was what was the pay-per-view after my fight I think 299 was the first fight
26:37
card where they used the tiny gloves so I mean it's not necessarily enough enough fights to get a good you
26:45
know database a good test pool but it will be interesting just to see if um
26:51
the numbers of of injuries of handbrakes of you know lacerations of Knockouts
26:57
like what have you if if those numbers go up yeah because of the gloves yeah for sure um another thing that I noticed
27:06
um in the Apex last night was there was this squeaky little voice screaming oh my God who baby was
27:15
that it was Halo Hal halah halah Hal halah halah halah his kid was
27:23
haling all night he couldn't stop Hala oh my God just
27:29
screaming yeah uh he was fighting creevy
27:34
mhm and every round this kid was just screaming but screaming good
27:42
advice Fair it was good advice I remember something happened he went for a takedown or something and his head got
27:48
stuck in the guillotine and I heard head up he's not wrong I mean not the most
27:55
technically sound advice but he's not he's not wrong you got to get your head up you can't just come in there with
28:01
your head tucked or you're going to get choked out kids right that was pretty funny it made me
28:08
feel like that's what people hear when I Corner them cuz no well I've always been
28:15
told that my voice carries oh I've told you that it does I think everybody tells
28:21
you that and here in I whenever you hear your voice on tape it sounds stupid
28:26
because it's not what you hear in your head so whenever I hear my voice will
28:32
tape I'm like who's that kid who's this dumb kid that oh it's
28:41
me but I I feel like it's a similar thing the frequency just cuts through I
28:47
could hear his his kid louder than I can hear his Corner oh definitely I don't
28:52
know where he was like with the microphones yeah maybe maybe he was
28:57
really close to the commentary death they M up he was the corner mic he put
29:03
on my kid yeah I just no it was really distracting to me I don't it obviously it didn't
29:10
distract him in in a bad way maybe it motivated him I think it did hopefully hopefully I mean he got
29:18
the win so you know maybe he needs to bring him a few more times and see see the the
29:25
data on thatu um but yeah it was really interesting one one thing that I did
29:30
notice about TR TR truski uh kevki kvi I'm correcting you
29:38
but I have no idea allow actually it's kvi all allow it um this is this is
29:46
another one of those fights where the person going forward just said [Β __Β ] it
29:52
and I'm going to throw and I'm not saying he's a brawler like he's untechnical but he took the more
29:57
polished crisp Striker and he took him out of his game he put him on his heels he didn't
30:03
allow the space that KFI needed to execute his game plan well yeah and um
30:09
it just really took the wind out of his sailes and he started you know jumping for Guillotines he started trying to
30:14
just force things that weren't necessarily there yeah and he landed on him too he dropped them in that second
30:21
round uh commentary was going crazy like why would he shoot on him but I don't
30:26
know I feel like a lot of times when you sting someone when you almost drop them you think it's going to be easy to take
30:32
him down to sub metum and that's his bread and butter he likes to get on top he likes to hit him TKO or submit so it
30:39
seemed like a good idea to me you drop them you still got about a minute left in the round let's take him down real
30:45
quick and submit him he didn't expect the guy would wake up immediately and grab on his neck and stall things out
30:50
again um but it was a really good fight uh I thought it was really cute that he
30:56
was he was happy about his family being there and being able to hear them because that's usually when I'm like I
31:03
don't know you're embarrassing me in front of my friends a lot of people I always think about khil Round Tree when
31:11
his mom he yelled at his mom I would never I feel like my mom would
31:16
jump over the cage and beat me if I if I did that she would have the switch ready
31:24
somehow someone would have got her switch and she would have climbed into
31:29
that cage and be like what did you say but I would I would never tell my mom to shut up like that I would well that's
31:37
different different upbringings yeah I would very different upbringings now my father on the other hand see I tell I to
31:44
shut up all day see it's just different it's just different different family Dynamic Different Strokes for different
31:50
folks Strokes of the switch on the tree um so I always think about that and I
31:56
realized yes some people can't handle that pressure of their family being right there screaming bloody murder uh
32:05
all all out of love but sometimes it could be really distracting well for me it's not necessarily the pressure but I
32:12
I don't want my family to see me and and worry about how they're seeing me in
32:18
case I get messed up or if I get cut or if I'm in bad positions I just I don't
32:23
want them to experience that and I don't want to worry about them and what they're feeling experiencing yeah I just
32:29
feel like uh you know certain family members you don't take to war with you exactly and some you do you can stay at
32:39
home um talk to you later I know right see you after once my face heals up I
32:46
don't want you to talk about that either what happened did you lose again God damn it
32:53
this is why I don't talk to you out family can be the worst yes uh
33:00
uh the Cody Duran versus Bruno Silva fight was full of
33:07
drama so did you see anything in the pre
33:12
or post fight stuff about them training together because I thought that was kind of weird so I wanted to talk about that
33:19
too because they said um the broadcast team was uh talking about how they were
33:25
literally training alongside each other on the mat taking the same classes for
33:30
this fight for this fight what like I would never what no way that's wild yeah
33:37
I mean I understand for a title fight yeah but I mean it would
33:42
be kind of like um in The Ultimate Fighter where if when two team members were fighting each other they like just
33:49
switch the times that you're going to train so you avoid each other you give each other the space and respect that
33:54
you need to you know train fully but yeah they said they were training alongside each other that's crazy with
34:00
different coaches different training partners of course but it was a divided gym and I just as as somebody who like
34:07
really values and and cares about my my teammates and my training Partners I
34:12
just couldn't imagine yeah that would be really hard for me no um we we kind of
34:18
started opening the doors or I guess I did started opening the doors of our
34:23
training room just because it's so hard to find good female training Partners our side
34:29
and it started coming up where every now and then someone would be scheduled to
34:35
fight someone else and you just have to make a decision you have to say Okay
34:41
this person has been here longer or this person is going to train longer with us or something but you have to be like
34:47
okay you can't train here not for this fight camp at least because that's just it's just bad it's just wrong um I'm
34:55
already going to feel awkward like if they ask me questions about how to
35:00
approach the fight it it I just I really don't like that I really don't like that at all and it sucks because sometimes
35:06
it's unavoidable but a place like uh top team it seems to happen a lot where it's
35:14
almost expected everybody that you train with you're sizing up and I don't like
35:19
that I feel like it's not a great environment to grow it's not a great environment just for your mental health
35:26
because you're going in there guarded you're going in there thinking everyone's out to get you and I much
35:32
rather have that family feel when I come into a gy and I'm trying to learn how to
35:37
fight and how to make money to put on on the table so yeah I I always didn't like that idea
35:47
uh since I heard about the first time I heard about it was when uh Jon Jones fought Rashad Evans and I thought that
35:54
was the worst thing to ever happen in the history of fight in because I just started watching face but well there's
36:02
there's a lot of of trust that goes into the people that that you train with to your coaches you you trust these people
36:08
to keep you safe to guide you and it's a very vulnerable relationship so you know
36:15
you're putting your Blood Sweat and Tears on the mat every day with these people that you train with and all of a
36:20
sudden it's it's divided and now this person with all the information on you
36:27
is is coaching against you yeah I've I've been fighting and heard you know a former coach yelling for my opponent and
36:34
it it affected me I I wish it hadn't but but it does it it'll start you know just
36:40
seeping in there and it's not a good feeling and fighting is hard enough I
36:46
don't want to worry about you know all of my my secrets and my vulnerable
36:54
moments being exploited like that mhm yeah it sucks it's you almost got to just say [Β __Β ]
37:00
it when you get caught in that situation but if you can avoid it for me I feel
37:06
like that's the best way so um I guess knowing that some gems are like that you
37:11
can future Fighters can say oh I'm not going to go train at top team I'm not going to train at Jackson wink because
37:18
if it comes to me fighting another guy even if it's not even for a lot of money
37:24
it's just for a 2020 purse they're going going to be like do it
37:29
bro we get twice the amount of commission because two guys are fighting
37:34
from our gy so let's go I I always felt like that's that's looking at the uh
37:41
what do you call it looking at the pennies before the dollars you're just uh you're not looking at the long game
37:47
you're looking at the short-term gain and in the meantime you're losing the trust of your Fighters your Fighters
37:54
lose the trust of their teammates and itat creates a more hostile environment than it needs to be so deran seemed
38:04
super upset about this whole situation and I kind of feel like that's what lost him to fight it very well could have
38:10
again it's it's those little you know voices of Doubt those those things
38:15
you're hearing you know he's being cornered against by people that he knows and trusted and know him so I'm I'm sure
38:22
that that could have affected him in a very serious way in the fight and he was
38:28
doing magnificently up until the moment that he got knocked out like he was mauling
38:36
Bruno Silva just on top of him grinding him out getting him into every position
38:42
that he wanted and then just the pressure of deran was really impressive
38:47
and then just a quick lapse of judgment he rushed in he didn't faint first it it
38:55
almost seemed like luck because every moment up until then it worked but this
39:01
one moment as he changed level Bruno Silva was able to land the biggest
39:06
uppercut from his back pocket knock Duran's mouthpiece out and drop him like
39:13
crazy and then uh like part of me was like Ah that's early stoppage he's fine
39:18
but then when they pulled him off of me he's like yeah whoa that was a good call
39:24
God damn yeah good raffing good ring for sure um I I felt horrible for him um but
39:32
then I saw how happy Bruno Silva was and the fact that deran seemed kind of disrespectful
39:40
towards his skill set like maybe just got the best of him in the gym a lot and felt like this was an easy fight kind of
39:47
wanted to prove to Bruno Silva that he didn't deserve to step up to him and I
39:52
think a lot of that ego a lot of the aggression him ping back and forth after
39:58
the eye poke going it was a punch little moments like that made me think that he
40:04
wasn't fully thinking in the way he would have if there was no drama attached to the fight yeah sometimes
40:10
emotions can really get the better of us and i' I've gone back and forth with you
40:16
know feeling like um a a cool C collected composed fighter is the kind
40:21
of fighter I want to be but sometimes the the emotion the the the anger the
40:28
fuel you know can can make somebody be that much more devastating Inside the
40:33
Cage but when you don't harness your emotions in in the right way it can it
40:40
can lead to that yeah look at Vera in her walk out oh my God it was the best
40:46
thing ever I love that song too you know what it it made me like her so much for
40:52
right I was like okay you're adorable all right look at you I'm having a good
40:58
time too girl she's singing it singing Queen dancing around like doing
41:04
this so cute yeah and then I was laughing about her little uh postf fight
41:12
thing she said The champ is here yeah but I'm like what song is that she went The champ is
41:22
here like wait what I was a little confused too but I got it I'm like I you go girl this is
41:29
your moment you take it yes it's it's an original piece it's her own her own new walk out
41:36
song she'll be the next Brazilian to walk out to their own music yes exactly
41:42
oh man yeah someone needs to remix that but yeah I I do agree I think I think
41:47
there's a level somewhere in between heated emotional and cool common
41:53
collected that you have to be and everyone's different but you have to figure out what that level is where
41:59
you're making the best decisions uh in the moment and not being
42:06
too chill or too rash and just doing the best of your ability in that gear and I
42:12
think diran was just a little too high on that emotional level and ran right
42:19
into an uppercut and Silva was chilling he was getting his ass kicked but he was he seemed like he was chilling like he
42:25
didn't seem like it was a personal attack or personal decision or anything
42:32
he seemed very much in the moment the entire fight even though he was getting beat up I mean I think that's that's the
42:38
key thing right there is what you just said is taking it personal yeah it's it's hard not to take it personal yeah
42:44
you know the the buildup and the leadup to the fight I I understand how he got into his emotions and you know it's a
42:50
good learning experience to to let things go let it go let it go
42:57
oh I did think it was cool though when he uh when deran went for that anaconda
43:03
anaconda Guillotine combo uhuh I was just like let's go there were a lot of
43:08
jumping the ghillies this fight card and and it ended up and we had zero finishes
43:14
I know it's it's hard like um you see them they're they're available but there
43:22
is there there is a method to securing them and sometimes uh people get caught
43:28
up in the moment and it's heated and you just want to you know go for something your body just kind of goes on autopilot
43:33
with it and it may not be the best decision jumping for a guillotine and then ending up on your back yeah yeah
43:39
like with this one he ended up uh on top I'm pretty sure but still there were a lot of moments where people just said
43:47
let's go I feel like everyone got their jump the ghilly t-shirt in the mail I
43:52
just got mine a few like last week so I wouldn't be surprised of that's why
43:58
everyone was just on that mindset of let's do it let's do it for Dustin unfortunately everyone's results
44:06
were like Dustin he such a trend Setter yeah jump to Gilly and don't get it that's a trend there's just there's a
44:13
time and a place for it it's like um ker he jumped for it and he was ped it was
44:21
was actually beautiful beautiful timing uh by Gibson yeah uh so but he was kind
44:27
of discombobulated when he did it I know it's a technique that he he favors in his fights in the training room he does
44:33
them all the time so I understand why his body wanted to do that it just wasn't the best time for it it would
44:38
have been wiser to you know snap down secure it more before jumping to it
44:43
because he got passed and then uh Gibson passed really quickly to a head and arm
44:49
yeah yeah really really quickly he almost uh jumped to mount at one point
44:54
like uh but yeah when he jumped for the ghilly the second time he was able to
44:59
get right to the back and that's the problem of jumping it when you don't have your legs in a good spot you're not
45:06
able to control what happens after they get their head free or right before they get their head free um if you don't like
45:14
have that control of a situation you're kind of doing it in desperation because you feel the neck you feel like oh it's
45:21
it's right there and and it's it's never right there until it's there
45:27
yeah you really got to set it up it makes me a little more happy about uh my last submission just because I there was
45:35
a there was like a point where I was beating myself up for not going for it sooner but I feel like it was probably
45:42
the right moment because I had secured that position so many times and finally
45:48
felt okay this is the time to bite and um you know a lot of times you don't get
45:54
all those looks you don't get all those opportunities to to sus it out and
45:59
sometimes it works out for people but more likely than not especially with this card it did not work out for people
46:05
there were about five uh fights where the person just went for the guillotine
46:11
and the person's head popped out and they ended up in a really bad position afterwards yep yeah um yeah that ker
46:19
fight was something else and and Gibson uh this was a huge win for him because
46:24
he was coming off of a two fight lose streak uh he just got into the UFC
46:30
there's always that fear of losing your job after one fight after one loss in
46:36
the UFC and he was coming off of two he's fighting someone who has that
46:41
veteran skill that uh that uh experience to pull off the upset again and get make
46:49
it 0 and three so he was probably dealing with a lot coming into this fight and to put on a performance like
46:55
he d like he did it was just a shutout performance he was able to shut down Brian kellerer who is an amazing fighter
47:03
You know despite his record um I thought that was really impressive mhm definitely yeah yeah it takes it takes a
47:10
lot for a fighter to dig themselves out of that that lost
47:17
hole the Lost hole is the sucky hole to be in it does and it can it can suck you
47:22
down and it can keep you down yeah it's like a black hole it really is Tex it's
47:27
awful um so it's always you know I'm always rooting for both people to put
47:32
their best foot forward and it's always you know because because I've been there you've been there we've all you know had
47:39
losses uh behind us and so it's always a nice moment when I see Fighters like dig
47:45
themselves out of it and he made uh a lot of uh changes like he went and trained in Vegas I started training with
47:53
uh Al Alo and uh patchy mix our girls boy um so yeah so there there were a lot
48:02
of changes that he made that I feel like built his confidence and allowed him to get over that loss hole and I think a
48:09
lot of times when you're a good fighter and you just happen to lose a couple of times confidence is the biggest thing
48:15
that you have to build and it's hard to get that confidence when you're doing the same thing that you did when you
48:22
lost so switching things up being able to train with guys that have more
48:28
experience that have been where you want to be and be able to pick their brain maybe have some good days against them
48:34
that's definitely going to build your confidence and and make you perform better than you would have if you stuck
48:40
around doing the same thing so yeah that was cool it was cool to watch um and uh
48:46
can we talk about the return of Korean Super Boy Doo
48:54
Choy sure he was so he is so cool so five years two fights
49:03
five years that's crazy it's a crazy crazy Gap in competition yeah especially
49:09
considering how huge he was before he stopped he was on a tear yeah I mean he
49:15
was having big fights he fought um Cub Swanson and was at a main event he was
49:21
he was really really working himself up there MH and doing really well for himself and then just Jeremy came came
49:26
along yeah Jeremy does that to people ruins people's lives he does he hurts
49:33
their feelings he's such a sweetheart though you would never guess by looking at his highlight rule so glad we're
49:39
friends you know I'm so glad you're not fighting someone I love
49:46
exactly you're the guy you're always the guy I love so I'm happy about
49:52
that yeah after that fight um I think there was another one where he uh just
49:58
came up short I think it was probably hard for him to to pick himself up out of that
50:05
hole we were talking about the Lost hole and to to touch that like super stardom
50:11
so fast it's it's rare in the UFC to become a quick Superstar but a lot of
50:17
times these people they reach that top they get that super stardom and then after a couple losses they're gone MH
50:24
they become just a flash in a pan like a sage North cut or um you know we even
50:30
see a little bit of that happening with Patty penlet he hasn't lost but a lot of people have lost that uh excitement
50:37
about him and it's hard to gain that back and it's
50:43
hard to mentally overcome that being I mean I I
50:48
don't know from personal experience because I've never had a hype train but
50:54
I can imagine that the higher you you go even before getting the belt the easier
51:00
it is to lose confidence in yourself once you fail and I think that was a
51:06
huge moment this win for uh doho Choy to come back he had Korean zombie in his
51:12
corner and he was able to get that huge knockout and show new wrinkles to his game too it showed a little grappling
51:19
which you must have love yeah little grapple tackle tackle
51:24
and grapple and then you had to set up his knockout mhm yeah it was pretty impr
51:29
it was a beautiful knockout that was one of the Knockouts that I was talking about where it could have been you know from the glove such a big reaction from
51:36
alio yeah um looking like his orbital could have been possibly broken taking you know two uh two big left hooks yeah
51:44
he um as he was getting up he threw like a huge loaded hook and then a few
51:50
moments later landed another one and that second one just yeah just caught him caught him right on the Ed yeah he
51:57
he did the hold up one second that's how you know something
52:04
messed up like he he was he was done at this point that's basically a TKO but he
52:12
he was like wait D CH waited and then he realized I think he might have thought it was an eye poke because of how
52:18
horrible it felt and then you could see the pain rush into in his body language
52:23
it was just horrible to watch yeah it was a good stoppage it was was a great performance um and it was it was a very
52:29
impressive comeback from Choy and I'm happy to see it of course I'm never
52:35
really happy to see somebody you know have to sit out through injury for you know as long as he's probably going to
52:41
have to but it was an impressive comeback and it was a beautiful moment with him and Korean zombie um afterwards
52:46
and I mean that's got to that's got to be go get him buter uh that's got to be very
52:54
motivating to have a veteran like that on yourself and you know uh give you some confidence and and comfort in there
53:00
which is important yeah everyone loves Karine zombie he had that was one of my
53:07
handful of teary moments uh when a Korean zombie retired after putting on
53:13
that crazy fight with Max Holloway I love how Max gave him the the room and I
53:18
love how everyone was singing his song afterwards and he's one of those Fighters where it it's a lot of people's
53:25
first f Fighters yeah like I came into the scene pretty um late and I saw him
53:32
fight uh what's his name the guy who uh who he twisted what's his name the guy
53:39
who oh lonard Garcia yeah lonard Garcia and and I watched him lose to Leonard Garcia and I'm like that's stupid he
53:46
should have won I love that guy he's so cool and that's the type of uh feeling
53:52
you get when you see him and I think it's a it it's definitely a warm moment
53:57
to see him passing on that I guess superstardom to the Next Generation in
54:03
doho Choy yeah Korean zombie is one of those Fighters that just transcend wins and losses what he he represents And the
54:10
emotions that he gives people is is a really beautiful thing and it's very rare you know um it's very easy to to
54:19
love him and root for him no matter if he win loses or draws yeah for sure well
54:25
uh we have a lot of other things to talk about but I'm wondering if we should
