what's up everyone welcome to teach us we missed you yeah I hope you missed us
0:12
as well um so we're gonna get right into it we are going to uh recap some 290 moments
0:18
UFC 290 that was Whitaker and duplicis yeah that was the biggest moment because
0:25
that's not even the headliner of the car what it was
0:33
it was the realest part of the card oh my gosh we could have stopped the show
0:38
right there dude I was emotionally drained after all that it was intense so
0:44
let's set the scene okay I wasn't one of the people who were cool enough to get
0:49
shipped in to the UFC fighter area and watch it live but we had an even cooler
0:56
party in my basement yes we did yeah they view in the basement Tiki Bar we
1:02
had the um we call it the projector playing I felt very grown up putting on
1:08
a grown-up fight party like my mom used to watch in Tyson so yeah it was a
1:14
pretty cool moment for us and I mean it was pretty impressive you had like an on hand bartender staff I know I'm catered
1:21
I know Chef Adam who is pretty impressive and all that he does
1:26
unfortunately he has to wear all the hats when it comes to the service part I was
1:31
making so everyone was having a good time you need another drink hey Adam get on that every time I look over he's like
1:38
full like cocktails mixologists yes like amazing and somehow he saw more of the
1:44
fights than I did he's like telling me things that happen I'm like how do you know you were making five Margaritas
1:50
well you were entertaining yes yes you were a very uh gracious host thank you
1:55
you made sure everybody was comfortable at all times yeah made us laugh yes
2:01
you were you guys um uh make a very great team why thanks
2:07
well thank you I hope to see you at the next one I hope I get invited back you
2:12
know there's always that moment where you like don't know how you did oh I guess as a guest but then you know the
2:18
next the next invite if you get it or don't then you know you're like oh there was another one oh we are I must have
2:26
missed my invite it must be somewhere lost in my DMs along with everybody else's that's how I would feel
2:32
um an Invicta when I was fighting for them and I put on a good fight and I'm like I must have done really well and
2:39
then they don't call me for the next car but then I ended up fighting on the next
2:45
card anyway because they kept having people fall out so listen you always fight on every card and so I don't know
2:50
what that is about but yeah they don't call me though they wait until they need me which is kind of a toxic relationship
2:57
I would say it's a red flag it is it is it's a bit of a red flag but I'm like
3:03
all red flag relationships you just keep going back yeah if you don't learn your lesson if loving MMA is wrong
3:11
amen amen
3:18
um I created a great Ambiance and we enjoyed some amazing fights uh up until the Whitaker dipless fight was insane
3:26
already um unfortunately a girl that I trained with Yasmine she got knocked out really
3:32
quickly in her fight and one thing I kind of want to touch on um that I didn't plan on but I think we
3:38
should touch on it anyway every now and then I'll see someone who's really
3:43
um loved and uplifted like by fans and people just have nothing bad to say about them and then they lose and I'm
3:52
always curious if the fans do what I expect them to do and they did so tell me about it I mean
4:00
I just briefly went through the comments on her last post and it's always
4:05
disappointing and I don't know why I do it because I know the answer already but I don't know I guess I just need that
4:12
confirmed so I'm not talking about the fans being rude when they actually aren't but I go on to gas means page and
4:20
I'm just like uh let me send her some like some love or whatever and then I see all these posts of just people
4:26
ragging on her what did they say just saying that she's a bum like it this or
4:32
that like it just the the typical things that people say when a fighter loses
4:37
especially if they put money on them and one thing I have to say is if you're so
4:43
angry about placing a bet on a fighter and they lose that you would comment on
4:49
their page you're probably too broke to bet on a fighter like it's it's probably not your thing it's not gonna make you
4:55
rich so stop all your head because that shouldn't be making you that emotionally
5:01
charged to go and Badger someone kick them while they're down that's extremely fair to say
5:07
what did uh there's there's a famous quote that says um what you think of me
5:13
is none of my business yeah exactly it's not we you know we put ourselves out
5:19
there it's a it's a very uh it can be a very scary vulnerable you know heightened emotional state to put
5:25
yourself out there on one of the biggest stages in the world and to put yourself out there
5:31
um and when is one thing and then to lose is another and um it's already hard enough to go through
5:37
and process you know all of all of our own emotions but to you know be added
5:44
that kind of toxicity in those comments it's just unnecessary it's appreciated
5:50
and I just I would like to encourage you guys to do better do better I mean it's not it's kind of part of our job to have
5:58
a social media presence um especially young up-and-comer like her it's a place for all her actual fans
6:04
to gather and root her on and show people like Hey we're all behind her Mexico's behind her uh you know this
6:11
this is a fighter that we love to see fight so keep putting her there and we're gonna watch and everyone's gonna
6:17
be happy but when you take advantage of that that uh closeness that ability to
6:23
reach a person that you want to be able to reach in real life then it really just sours the whole thing it makes you
6:30
not want to log on it makes you not want to interact with fans and if anyone actually cares about Fighters then they
6:37
would not do that [ __ ] like even when I was a casual fan before I fought before I had any experience like that I would
6:43
never ever in my life go on someone's page and write something I mean this was back in the only Facebook days
6:52
my colle my like ID was attached to account but still I would never put
6:57
myself out there because I would hate for someone to do that to me so it's it's it's really just rude and I think
7:03
half of the people who say these things if the if the camera was flipped and someone was talking [ __ ] about them and
7:10
we knew everything about their life all their ups and downs then they'd have a pretty hard time dealing
7:17
with that yeah it's not it's not easy to put ourselves out there it's not easy to
7:22
you know receive the criticism that we do but but we do it because we love the sport yeah
7:28
um and support is always appreciated um lack of support it's okay it's it can
7:34
be appreciated as well it can be motivating for some people but it requires a really uh
7:40
thick skin to to do what we do and to put ourselves out there the way we do and you're right
7:45
um I know me personally I you know kind of shy away from interacting online because I just it's so much energy it
7:53
can be so exhausting to you know respond to one person interact with them and
7:58
then somebody else chimes in and then it just becomes this like crazy snowball of a mess and it's it's a lot of energy
8:03
it's it's a lot of wasted energy in my opinion yeah but it's um I don't know I
8:09
started just getting a visual of you know what if we just sat there with our two straws you know uh hats on and we
8:15
started commenting on on what you do and how your performance is every single day right Luffy showed up to your job at
8:23
Dunkin Donuts and GameStop or it's like whatever you're doing and we have and we
8:30
have um you know no business commenting about this thing because it's not our job and we don't really you know know all the
8:36
ins and outs of it we're not like living and breathing and eating it and we just like started you know talking at you
8:42
telling you what we think and what you should do and you know people can be brutal and it goes back to that you know
8:48
hurt people hurt people and it's it's really unfortunate I just
8:53
again we should all do better yeah hurt people hurt people and broke people get
8:59
mad about a fighter move and losing that they put money on so quit being broke quit acting broke shut up if you lost
9:08
the money just don't bet again keep your mouth shut keep your Twitter fingers away from that don't at them about it
9:18
there are a lot of quick finishes on that card so it's not like she was the only one who's getting probably getting
9:25
uh you know a little Trash Talk thrown at him right after but it was sure there was just a lot of energy in the arena
9:32
that night like it's that pay-per-view thing man dude people were on one the fights were insane like they started
9:38
fast a lot of them ended fast I think it was um like record-breaking they had four
9:45
sub one minute finishes that has to be the fastest knockout in straw weight
9:50
history I mean or was it Rose and Wiley that might be it that might be it yeah I
9:56
gotta look it up but it was definitely up there I feel like yeah yeah because it was like 20 seconds right or 30 30
10:02
something maybe yeah it was crazy I actually I wanted to talk about yasmine's fight but for another reason
10:09
but um it was more so like just another case of possibly again I don't know
10:15
personally but like the weight cut you know we cut weight
10:20
to have an advantage in some sense but at some point there is a disadvantage and she just seems like one of those
10:27
girls that maybe probably better suited at flyweight I mean she has a big enough build she looks strong enough yes she
10:33
can cut all of the weight and have you know that that powers you know strength
10:39
speed advantage to smaller straw weights but at what cost yeah you know it's only
10:45
a matter of time before it catches up with you yeah the the chin I always talk about the amount of water that you can
10:51
rehydrate and not enough of it goes back to your brain when you rehydrate and
10:56
that's the thing like the cushion in your brain is keeping you from having to bounce around in there and then go okay
11:02
this is too much lights off and that's what happens a lot when people cut a ton
11:08
of weight they become way easier to drop way easier to knock out and it was the
11:13
first punch so you have to think okay she didn't take damage in the fight
11:19
maybe it was fight camp or maybe it's the weight cut you got to look at what happened before the fight in order to
11:25
get down to the nitty-gritty of what allowed this to happen because usually she's been able to take a little bit
11:31
more punishment than that before just checking out so it's definitely something to look at I mean I've trained
11:37
with her and she's definitely bigger than me when I trade with her but I feel like I've been pretty small for a straw
11:43
weight and I think she'd be kind of in the same boat at flyweight but still
11:49
healthy which is good you know sometimes the healthiness outweighs you being like
11:56
maybe five or tens five or ten pounds lighter than your opponent on Fight Night like if you're more durable then
12:03
that's great if I cut a ton of weight I probably would have gotten finished in my last fight you know it's uh yeah that
12:10
durability can come and help you when you're really down and out and sometimes
12:15
that's the biggest difference of a win and loss for sure let's get into duplicities in Whitaker
12:22
please oh my gosh because for not being emotionally invested in that fight I was very emotionally invested you're
12:27
emotionally invested I know I don't know him but I love
12:33
whatever I just I think he would have his babies I would not I mean y'all already has a bunch but you
12:41
would like at least take one to the park in a non-creepy way I would not
12:49
um you take him to the petting zoo in Australia no no you wouldn't no you love the
12:57
kangaroo I want the kangaroos to myself oh yeah yeah those are mine
13:02
make sure it's small you can shove it in the pocket or something I thought about it I thought I was like how do I get
13:07
away with this one I really like this one just a little bit too big to fit in my bag so you need the pouch
13:16
he's a little little kangaroo outfit before I've seen people with like these
13:22
big kangaroo costumes right and they're teaching the little Joeys how to how to go in because they you know they they
13:28
don't have a mom or you know whatever happened they were orphaned so the God bless those zookeepers those I mean I
13:35
don't know if that's their actual you know title it's probably something a little bit more fairies
13:41
have you ever been in Vegas yo I feel like I've seen him walking around
13:48
I've seen him walking around I'm like oh my God how cute and then I realized what it was and I was like oh I mean that's
13:55
cool just not for me there's a zipper down there like oh look at you you're a
14:02
little dog you know oh there's a red rocket yeah damn it okay you ruined it damn it yeah never mind never mind you
14:10
had you almost had me interested I wouldn't be surprised if you were I was gonna walk through it's gonna walk
14:16
through that threshold of those conventions in her doors and be like oh never wrong oh wait I love animals not
14:23
that much never mind oh man uh anyway I know what I'm getting
14:29
you for your birthday little kangaroo suit for your next Australia trip yeah
14:34
oh man um but yeah Whitaker he's awesome I kind of have a fighter crush on him just
14:40
because he likes all the same video games I like I just think that he is a
14:46
great representation of what it is to be like a an athlete in the sport yeah I think he holds himself really well I
14:52
think he's a great athlete I think you know he just represents the sport very well and I really loved him as a
14:57
champion yeah and I love watching him train he he's just so he's such a
15:03
technician he's so clean with all of his techniques like and you know he's like just learning more and more every day
15:09
becoming more of a a great athlete every day it's just you know when there's one person at the top or when there's two or
15:16
three people at the top then a lot of times one person gets the belt and the other person is just fighting out of
15:23
deficit pretty much because you don't have the belt yet and they're fighting to obtain
15:28
it and it just doesn't happen for them that happens a lot with uh you know when
15:34
you have more than one huge Talent that's kind of a ahead of their time so
15:39
that's why it was so surprising because Whitaker is one of these talents that you know has has not been beaten by
15:45
anyone but out of Sanya and duplesses with his big old body man I was looking
15:53
at like big old janky body here's a big boy he is dense and he's clunky and I
16:00
don't know I'm sorry like I don't that sounds bad but it's not like he's not he doesn't
16:06
have athletic Movement Like if you look at Whitaker that guy is agile athletic quick his in and out even you know in in
16:13
the first round before you know it started not going his way
16:19
um he was seeing like everything it was like he was in The Matrix in those like every punch that took places through he
16:24
was you know bobbin dipping slipping like he was he just like saw everything
16:30
and I don't know what it is about Japanese because he's not great at any one thing
16:36
but he looks big and strong obviously hits hard as we saw there's just
16:41
something about him that I never think he's gonna win and then he
16:47
surprises the [ __ ] out of me yeah like just like shocks me and so now I have to stop being surprised
16:54
you think I would learn by now it's gonna happen I don't know this guy's gonna this guy's gonna beat him it's
16:59
fine because like again he's not great at any one thing but I mean he just he commits I think that's the biggest
17:06
thing he commits to things like he'll be like I'm gonna throw this stiff ass one too and he goes
17:15
it's not a fast Rhythm it's like um like again Whitaker he has a rhythm he has
17:22
his his gate he has his you know his stuff the way he moves and duplicity just kind of yeah he commits and he just
17:28
throws [ __ ] he punches through it yeah yeah he punches right through it and uh the I think the moment I realized the
17:35
fight was getting away from Whitaker was when du plessis got that uh that takedown at the end of the first round I
17:42
think um it was it was just so not clean yeah nothing he does it's
17:49
clean so well yes like it literally looked demonstrated please demonstrate
17:55
it just do it but you know how we're supposed to keep
18:00
the legs straight when when it's like the Judo e version of it or like his leg was totally bent he kind of went cut
18:08
like clotheslined him and kicked his leg out from underneath them as he did it so it's kind of like that and it [ __ ]
18:15
worked yeah so well like it worked so well this guy just has you know an
18:22
innate ability to take control of fights and just hurt
18:27
people right in the right moment to change the tide of it like in the Bronson fight I thought he was done yeah
18:34
first first two minutes of the fight I'm like Brunson has got this black person
18:39
at it again ruining people's dreams and then bam you know out of nowhere yeah
18:44
just he comes back with his stiffness with his uh man I don't even know I gotta I gotta like go back and watch
18:51
tape on the plessis to really understand how he's doing this but it's really impressive like I think because it
18:58
doesn't look like what we want it to look like we don't expect it to work but it works for him and it's gonna be I
19:04
think Edison is a little excited about this puzzle because if it wasn't him it
19:11
would have been [ __ ] Whitaker for a fifth time can you near maybe maybe
19:16
Strickland who's kind of like yeah everyone expects you to win so that's always kind of uh
19:22
frustrating fight to fight when everyone expects you to win and he already got beat by somebody that he beat but this
19:29
is a brand new piece of meat and it has a great has a great backstory
19:37
boy oh boy I had like when I watched Addison walk into the
19:43
ring call him the m word 50 times
19:49
I wish I had a clicker I'm like he practiced that [ __ ] like yeah oh yeah he knew he was just in his room
19:56
like yo this [ __ ] wins I feel I swear I feel like adesania is
20:02
just one of those guys that like visualizes and practices his reactions yeah because as soon as duplicity's Got
20:10
The Knockout he's just standing there fuming and I'm like oh my God you're so dramatic he's just everything is like
20:16
it's it's a performance you know everything it's anime I don't watch anime but yeah it's a story every every
20:24
prison is a character and he's living the life of his character which is the
20:31
style Bender you know I don't know if you've heard of nope the Avatar Airbender Last Airbender he's the last
20:38
outbander very no no I I get it I get it but I I
20:44
also don't get it like I understand that that's his that's his thing yeah I understand but I just I've like I don't
20:51
watch anime so it's the fact that uh dupless is said what he said in this
20:57
last press conference for people it seems like a lot of people are having like short-term memory when it comes to
21:03
this and like why did I assign a column in the N word 50 times what if you called it back the reason he did it was
21:10
because duplessis went and talked trash about all the African Champions at the
21:16
time was Usman uh and ganu and arasanga and he said I'm gonna be the first real
21:23
African Champion easy boy
21:33
race war and you know the USC ESPN MMA like MMA
21:41
they're all going into like cultivate this this craziness it's gonna be a
21:47
media frenzy it's gonna be so tense there's gonna be so much on it they're just gonna eat it up and the crowd will be
21:55
segregated by The Paper Bag test
22:00
the brown paper bag test yes you're my friend of course I've heard of this you told me I feel like I told you about it
22:06
and you're like what's that no I remember okay okay I know what it is now
22:11
we can maybe use a manila folder just so it could be a little more accepting
22:18
manila folders can choose which side they sit on but oh my goodness okay or
22:23
is it just straight down the middle I mean that's what it used to be like but where it's 2023 so we can we can bend
22:32
some rules but this is going to be an insane fight
22:37
I was freaking out I thought that was the perfect reaction for out of Sania to
22:43
take when he got in there and like hyped the fight I thought it was perfect like yes this is the separation I'm gonna
22:49
make it very obvious anyone who doesn't get it get on board for the plessis you
22:54
know any no matter what happens people are going to tune in to watch this fight so oh absolutely I was [ __ ] hyped
23:00
yeah dude and then I was like well that's [ __ ] we got two more fights I know that's gonna go five rounds ah
23:07
really this is a long night I need another drink yes we're gonna be asleep it was a lot I'm like can everyone go
23:13
home no I'm done like it was a lot it had a lot
23:19
more Margaritas I always put up your little fold out I was like yeah
23:25
oh my goodness so that was that was a huge huge upset huge fight that's gonna
23:32
happen um I can't wait for that one and then after that we had our boy Brenda Moreno
23:39
man loss is super close decision I was mad at it at the time but I do
23:45
feel like pantosia did what he had to do but it's still like oh like when are
23:51
when are we gonna get the judging concise but it was it was just such a close fight it was hard to tell who took
23:57
what round and I think we were all in agreement it was two and two going into the fourth I felt like Mourinho did more
24:05
damage in the fifth but pantosia just got on his backpack game I mean algerman
24:11
Sterling has done that recently to secure his wins um and sometimes that's all you need to
24:18
do get on someone's back and just pot shot him until the Bell Rings yeah I mean I feel I just feel like bat control
24:25
Mount is just such a dominant position it really is I feel like it's really
24:30
hard to argue now you know cage pressure I feel like it could be seen and again
24:37
you may disagree with me but the act of having somebody secured your legs around them your arms around them
24:43
that kind of control is different than cage control cage pressure control yeah
24:49
you know for sure some people say like oh that should that should win because they're pushing this person up but I see
24:55
that as more of a stalling technique in some ways depending on how much how many punches they're doing but if they're just you know pop shotting playing the
25:01
game kind of thing it's easier to separate them from there I would never separate somebody that had figure four
25:08
on the back or Mount you know what I'm saying those are just such dominant positions to me so I and you work way
25:14
harder to get to those positions like to separate someone and it's happened and I
25:19
thought it was crazy like in Wilson's uh was it Wilson's oh no it was um uh our friend Damon's fight I think
25:28
uh engage Warriors he was on someone's back and then they stood him up or on
25:34
top of someone they stood them up and reset and the guy immediately like rocked him you know and it's the last 30
25:40
seconds of a fight that could have changed the entire course of the fight is that our friend Herb Dean I think I
25:46
think so it might have been herpes on that herb hey it was on the
25:52
air damn it damn it I mean you get so many calls to do a fight you're gonna
25:59
[ __ ] up every now and then for sure you're human yeah is he's not a referee
26:05
robot yeah ai ai ref smart ref
26:11
hi ref hi ref it's coming it's coming soon yeah they got the um you know Uriah
26:18
Faber with his uh grappling robot have you seen that no oh oh what is that it's
26:26
I think it's a really intricate sex doll but apparently it's a grappling dummy
26:31
that gives you feedback when you go for things like it'll tell you how I don't
26:37
know how like tight your choke is or if you got the arm bar like does it's a
26:42
joint that'll snap on it and you know it's it's soft like a grappling dummy
26:48
but it has skeleton skeleton
26:59
it has skeleton
27:05
and uh for yeah it's called the grappling robot I'm gonna send you a
27:10
clip but it's pretty cool maybe we could get him to send this one maybe man your eye favorite must be doing well since he
27:16
quit fighting yeah he got promotions robots gems for him
27:23
yeah he has he has some good real estate in northern California until he does oh I bet no he bought that gym damn good
27:30
for him like Hey California Kid he's doing it right yeah he needs to do a class on that like
27:38
everyone else you can watch the fights you get to get these skills or whatever but the real struggle is what you do to
27:46
not squander the big bags of money that you've acquired because it's easy to think that it's endless endless supply
27:52
of few thousand bucks it runs out fast it runs out so fast after you gotta
27:59
pay your manager your gym fees like I mean honestly like 30 to 40 percent of
28:06
that person's gone even before you make it yeah and then another percentage goes to your manager and then post fight
28:12
stuff and yeah man it goes fast remember when you thought eight and eight was a lot of money oh my God I was so excited
28:18
man we've talked about this I mean my first fight was 400 to show 200 to fight 200 for a bonus
28:27
so I got 800 dollars nice and a free trip to Evansville Indiana Oh in
28:34
November [ __ ] was called wow did you go sightseeing the one main road
28:42
yes I got to see everything off I got to see the road like you went to
28:47
Indiana Road right and I remember they were really excited about uh this brand new tanning salon that they had in
28:54
Evansville Indiana and they're like yeah we can you know we can spray tanning I'm like nah I'm good because at that time
29:00
you know they didn't have the mixtures right like they couldn't guarantee that you weren't going to be like an Oompa
29:05
Loompa orange oh so I was like no no I'm fine but some of the other girls went and got their spray tan on and I swear
29:11
did they look like Donald Trump you know what they actually looked good on camera but in person it it did not
29:19
look great orange and I remember just like seeing like um scuff marks oh no and like the warm-up
29:27
area yeah I swear so no no no no anyways we love gone on tangents it's fine yes
29:35
what the show is all about you won't get these tangents anywhere else [Laughter]
29:43
um what are we talking about I have no clue um we were talking about
29:58
and then we were talking about money for some reason oh yeah you're my favorite scrappling dummy oh yeah see I'm mad
30:06
still trap right there everywhere we went all over town
30:11
um but unfortunately you know or fortunately uh our friend Brandon Moreno ended up yes losing his
30:18
fight in in another really really tough hard fight I just I
30:24
wanna I have to say that what Brandon has done for himself as far
30:30
as like recreating and Reinventing himself as a fighter has been really impressive to watch and I know you know
30:36
this loss he's still you know right up there and he'll be back in the mix and I know
30:42
he'll come back stronger but it was it was a really good fight it was a fun fight to watch I was really excited and it always is with Brandon he always puts
30:49
on a good show and the thing is pintosas run through everyone except for Brandon
30:54
you know he was able to just beat everyone Brandon hung in there he made him lose rounds like he made him work he
31:02
made him get desperate at the end instead of trying to finish the fight he was just like let me hold on I can hold
31:09
on to this round I can win it this way and he did what he had to do I wouldn't be surprised if they had an immediate
31:15
rematch but I think they're gonna give someone like uh uh who's it Roy Val
31:24
um I think so I think he's he uh weighed in as an alternate for that hmm so I think
31:32
they're gonna give some of the other guys a chance to get in there but I
31:37
think with one fight just like uh just like our boy Oliveira one fight one big
31:43
win we'll get him right back into titles in so I'm sure he hasn't lost um motivation or faith he'll probably
31:50
have a nice long break and enjoy his family and then get back to work and be just as motivated as before for sure but
31:56
dude how inspiring was the pantosia thing like he was working for ubereats
32:03
on the come up to his title fight [ __ ]
32:09
that's so crazy I know it's um and it's you know speaking on that it's kind of
32:15
frustrating when I see people have like the wrong idea of how
32:22
much money Fighters actually make yeah it's really frustrating and it's part of the reason why they feel so comfortable
32:28
talking [ __ ] because they're like hey this guy makes a lot of money they why would they care about me what I think I
32:36
make less than them and all year than they make in 15 minutes so they feel
32:41
like it's okay it's because we see like the main eventers like all of a sudden Stuntin with the Gucci with the the
32:47
Versace with this and that it's because we get like a big lump sum of money and then it's easier to be like oh I have
32:54
all this money I'm gonna go you know buy myself something nice which you should yeah absolutely you should treat
32:59
yourself would you buy yourself with your first uh eight and eight uh I
33:04
bought myself some uh uh daf booty Louboutins
33:10
oh wow they were I think they were like 1500. okay I still have them I mean I'm
33:17
not gonna spend money on like crazy like stuff that's gonna go out of fashion like I can wear those things are Timeless that's how I justify it to
33:23
myself but yeah that was the gift that you know I bought myself plus with my first eight and eight I also got a 50k
33:29
bonus so I was like oh damn well yeah you were living life I was like you were
33:34
like a veteran you're like a better endoc at that point you like got brought in off of your wet
33:41
contract the WBC contact version yeah
33:47
um I think I I think I got uh was it a Cadillac we
33:54
had this weird car I forget what it was but it was it was the same car that um
34:00
that Nicholas Cage had in face off
34:08
yes it was an El Dorado nice that's so we bought that it was used oh yeah it
34:13
was pretty cheap I was still living in a church at the time but joke the [ __ ] out of that car yeah yeah
34:21
I mean way more useful than a pair of boots that I can only wear you know a couple times a year hey well but hey it
34:27
lasts I still have this yeah and I don't have that car anymore you're still getting around in yours
34:34
I'm a thinker yeah I'm a planner just like you need some robot boots now
34:41
[Music] robot grappling boots um so yeah I thought that was really
34:47
crazy but you know uh Pinto Joe wasn't trying to make a stand for fighter pay when he was saying that he was just
34:53
saying I had to do what I had to do I put a down payment on a house I had my family there I brought them in from
35:00
Brazil so bank account was low had to had to pay the bills had to do a little
35:05
extra to um you know make the ends meet and I think even if he wasn't advocating for
35:11
fighter pay it's still getting a reality out there that a lot of these people who are so against Fighters being taken care
35:19
of if you knew if you wanted to prepare a
35:24
night work for ubereats you shouldn't have became a fighter like it's so crazy me how against spiders the
35:33
fans can you know sometimes that we train for free
35:38
we we don't get paid yeah like at all and yeah that's that's our choice that
35:45
that is a choice that I made and I've been doing for 17 years and it has not been easy at all it has not but it is
35:52
really challenging like last year going through four fight camps only fighting once and I lost a decision yeah you know
35:59
yeah and you know now I'm injured and I'm gonna sit out probably the rest of this year because my foot's taking
36:05
forever to heal and I can't do anything except for rest so it's like yeah I have
36:10
to do other things to make money but people don't really like think about that no you know and if you can't prize
36:17
fight for other organizations then you're at the beck and call of the company too so if we are healthy and we
36:25
don't get that call then we're still waiting for our opportunity to maybe make
36:31
the paycheck that we want yeah but it might be half you know so these it's it
36:37
there's a lot of uh uncertainty when you're signing these contracts when you're getting ready to fight but
36:42
because we love it we keep doing it like like I said we're addicted to it you're addicted to
36:49
it but it's a struggle and and I feel like if it was if
36:55
the longer that the sport goes on the more Talent you're gonna see because
37:00
it's gonna have to catch up it's gonna have to start paying Fighters more I mean the more popular the sport is the
37:07
more money there will be for the fighters so there's gonna be more Talent when you have things like uh like
37:15
um pensions maybe like cat Sagano went on uh MMA fighting talking about uh
37:20
California pension that would allow MMA fighters who fought a certain number of times in California to get one dollar
37:27
for every uh for every ticket that was sold um from a promoter in California and
37:35
that's big especially if a big show like ballader or UFC comes to California that's a big amount of bank for these
37:43
retired Fighters and people were so against it for whatever reason and it's
37:48
just I don't know I just I just wish the loudest people weren't the worst
37:54
people because I know majority of the fans love Fighters every time I meet a fan in person they're so respectful
38:01
they're so sweet uh they make me remember why I love doing the sport
38:06
um but the ones online the loud gross ones are still part of it you know and
38:13
and I hope that eventually will come to like a more even base where like
38:19
I don't know I feel like in other sports you see more of an even like people defending fighter or people defending
38:25
athletes people doing their hate athletes but I still watch them every day because I'm crazy and I think we're
38:33
getting there I think there definitely is um what I'm I'm seeing sometimes in the
38:39
comments like you see people speaking out more about like
38:45
and this is like the fan speaking out more about like the bad roughing decisions the bad judging decisions
38:51
we're seeing people getting they're they're more aware they're more knowledgeable of what's going on they're
38:58
not just seeing you know the big lights in the big fight and they are um just getting more
39:04
involved and making themselves more aware of what's going on so I do see that we're not there yet but the fact
39:10
that there is such um a difference in like you know positivity and negativity I think that's
39:17
what's really ultimately going to build our sport to that next level because we do need that yeah we do need that but we
39:23
also need people to you know encourage and support and get behind and like
39:29
really understand like the intricacies of the business side of things yeah we need people to care yeah yeah as as with
39:36
anything the more people care the more change happens I just had a mini heart attack because
39:42
I'm not sure if I hit record
39:51
you know how you do something and you don't remember that you did it but you did it you hadn't like uh you left the
39:58
curling iron on moment exactly it's off it's cold I hadn't turned it on in two
40:05
days but I think that I left that that's that's what just happened so we're good
40:13
I'm like man this is really good oh [ __ ] did I ever recorded girl
40:20
they're like two shots is canceled oh my God yeah we're not gonna notice
40:26
had enough I just had to check I was I was really nervous I'm really good you
40:32
can see my face change if you go back about like what is happening if you go back about a minute you'll see this let
40:39
me go from to oh
40:45
hit record oh my god did you yeah man yeah good job but I
40:51
jesus this is you know what I feel like we're just we need a producer on set with us
40:56
at all times just making sure I feel like I don't trust people I'm like I bet
41:02
that [ __ ] didn't even hit play yeah you gotta double triple check watching the camera
41:07
um we should talk about uh the Volk fight quickly vote for I mean it was a quick
41:13
fight I think it went the way we thought it
41:20
would um but again there you know there's always a possibility especially with somebody like yeah
41:27
uh but it I I saw volkanovsky winning I didn't see him get a knockout though
41:33
that's what I was most impressed with like because I think
41:39
his fights with Max Holloway ruined him for me as
41:45
seen him as that Devastator that he actually is because all those fights went to decision because one was super
41:51
close and a lot of people thought it went to Max um so I've been seeing him as this guy
41:57
who was just technical doesn't have that much power just like pitter-patters and
42:02
wins fights and more of a point fighter which really good like wrestling skills and grappling skills but not really like
42:09
a guy who hurts people and now that he's gotten away from the max Holloway fights
42:16
I'm like Oh my goodness Volk I have not been doing you justice
42:23
[Applause] and I think that's the problem with a lot of MMA 's too is that they're not seeing him
42:29
because he's pound for pound number one right now yeah but I think the fan base isn't getting behind him the way that
42:35
they should be for someone who's that good because they're still seeing the max Holloway fights they're still seeing
42:41
the long decisions the debatable decisions and Max Holloway is just a beast in his own right you know so it's
42:49
you kind of have to take away those fights and Grant it like he won all those fights so that's already a notch
42:56
in this belt but if you take away those fights it's finish after finish after finish so volkanovski is a monster he's
43:03
a bad [ __ ] and I'm really excited to see who he fights next um I would rather see him fight another
43:09
featherweight just to see him get another KO under his record get people like really excited about him again and
43:17
then fight Islam but I don't know what are you thinking I no I I agree with you but I I wonder
43:24
who I'm more interested in who they're going to have makachev fight next I think it should be Charles Oliveira yes
43:32
for sure but I I don't know if I see it going any
43:40
much differently I still think makachev could probably pull off the Oliveira fight again yeah
43:47
um I I kind of want to see them fight again um sorry I want to see volkanovsky fight makachev again yeah me too like now oh
43:54
okay wait I want to see it now yeah I think they're like worried about holding up the divisions something like that who
44:02
cares we want to see it I am a fan my my
44:07
vote counts so I would like it uh to be pushed up ahead of everybody else just wants needs and desires I I want to see
44:15
that fight again because I had my I had volkanovski winning so impressed yeah it
44:20
was such an impressive fight and I was impressed in places I didn't think I'd be impressed with like his wrestling his
44:25
cage control is just like his uh clinch fighting places where we've seen
44:30
makashev dominate everyone else volcanovsky was getting off he was
44:36
scoring points like he took him down he's who does that he held him against the cage and he was little he's a little
44:42
guy he is I mean he's a little big guy he's a little Boulder yeah that guy is
44:47
hard to move no man I'm just so impressed with him he's another one of those guys that I really like just like
44:53
I like Whitaker I I like his personality I think he's great representative of the
44:59
sport I think he's a great athlete I just really like watching him like in and out of the Octagon he's just like
45:05
those guys from Down Under it's the accent you're like the guys from Down Under down and back yeah might well we
45:12
can move on to last week's or yesterday's card and what did you think about the Jack Della Medela Della mad
45:21
dilella fight he's from Down Under man okay so so I Saturdays are usually
45:30
like my down days I'm like okay I go I'll go have a lift and I'll take the dogs out and then like I am like camping
45:36
out because it's fight day so there's like boxing there's MMA always like multiple cards going on so I'm like this
45:42
is this is what I do on that day yeah and I started kind of like losing interest in that fight
45:49
but you know I'm like watching it watching and by the end of it they you know raise his hand and I'm like
45:56
I have to go back and re-watch this fight because maybe I wasn't paying attention maybe I wasn't paying attention well
46:02
enough because I I didn't think he won yeah I I didn't get I thought he was down two
46:08
rounds maybe the last round just had the last surge yeah I was like maybe the the
46:14
last part of the last round I was like I don't know but I thought
46:19
I I didn't have him up on the card and a lot of people felt that way so I actually I didn't watch that fight live
46:27
but I saw everyone's reaction to that fight and I was like well [ __ ] let me watch it and I think knowing that
46:33
everyone had that reaction already I watched the fight and I was like all right I feel like you watch it with
46:39
different eyes yeah after you already know what happened and the first round was kind of close but I thought uh I
46:47
thought uh the was his name hurts hmm I don't know how to say his name I thought
46:54
the other guy had the first round uh the not down under guy he had the first round second round was a weird one
47:00
because he was getting hurt uh the hurts guy was getting hurt and then he got the
47:07
takedown at the very like last two minutes of the round and I always feel like it's hard to judge who won that
47:15
fight on the judges scorecards because in my eyes he was winning up until that
47:20
moment he was doing more damage Jack medella Della he was doing more damage
47:25
up until the moment he got taken down and because it was past the halfway mark and there was no damage being done when
47:32
he was on top he never got to his back he never got to mount I felt like that should have gone to the other guy to
47:38
Jackman I need to learn these names even though he ended the round on his back and then
47:45
the third round was just Blitz he [ __ ] them up so I'm I'm not surprised that he
47:52
won the fight it was super close but because judges are scoring more damage
47:58
now I think that second round was the only one that was up in the air and he
48:03
got the second round yeah it's hard for me to agree with just the damage thing because damage can be and I mean not
48:09
saying that it was in this case but how much can be inadvertent like I mean you can like catch somebody with a with a
48:15
forearm accidentally somebody can like go for a takedown and hit a [ __ ] hip bone like these things can happen like
48:23
so I just can't go I I just cannot go off of damage well when I mean damage I mean there were more moments where he
48:30
had uh his guy visibly rocked like up against the fence why bubbling uh hit
48:37
him and with body shots really tiring him out just doing that kind of lazy like kind of days defense before he
48:46
would shoot in and get a shot stuffed so most of the shots were stuffed while he was getting beaten up on and then at the
48:53
very uh last two minutes it was like a minute 30 left he got the takedown and
48:59
so when that happens I feel like the judges should score for the person who
49:05
was in control of the fight more often and if the damage is there too it just it makes it more
49:12
it makes it just makes it easier to figure out you know what I mean and like I get what you're saying damage isn't
49:18
always the end-all be-all but if you get a takedown with less than half the round
49:26
left and you hold position and you don't try to score you don't try to sub then
49:31
is that worth winning is that round worth winning I think it's
49:37
based on Case by case and yeah and round by round yeah it's really hard to say like yes always no always kind of thing
49:44
I just I know out of what I've seen and experiences it
49:50
is really hard to hold someone down it is really hard to like gain that kind of like control over somebody's body and I
49:58
think that I and it could be just my my
50:05
experience in grappling but I always kind of like lean towards the grappler because I think it's that much more difficult to
50:11
get those positions get those dominant positions and hold and control somebody yeah
50:17
um in in like the stand-up range like who controls the range I also think is
50:22
is really impressive because that's hard to do especially when somebody's trying to get past you know your punches and
50:27
your range and your reach so it's just it's a case-by-case kind of thing and it's really hard to to say and everybody
50:34
else has like a different kind of bias and a different like Limbs and filter that they see things through and
50:40
again it's just another example of why we need very very clear cut meetings
50:48
before competition to let us know what exactly criteria examples of criteria
50:54
what we're looking for or what the judges are looking for I also feel like the commentary can sway the fans
51:00
opinions a bit too oh for sure because if you watch a fight silent you'll see a totally different fight from if you're
51:06
watching it with people telling you what's happening and there was one line I forget who said it uh I think it was
51:12
DC but at one point he gets to take down like after getting beat up the whole round and DC goes he could be up two
51:20
rounds and I feel like that's the thing that clicks on everyone like if someone was on their phone and then they hear
51:26
that they're like oh he's up two rounds all right you know like that that's the moment that just digs into people's
51:32
brains and watching it knowing that everyone thought or a lot of people thought it was a robbery
51:38
um I could see that it wasn't really it wasn't a robbery it wasn't people really
51:44
jumped to that robbery thing like it's like the people's go-to kind of like phrase these days and I think like it
51:52
would be more fair to say hey it was a really close fight it was a close fight it was very competitive uh more
51:58
competitive than people thought it would be it's also when people think that someone's gonna get blown out of the
52:03
water and then they almost win then people like to build these narratives about oh well they must not have wanted
52:11
him to win you know they didn't want this guy who came in on five days notice to beat this guy who they're trying to
52:18
build up because of Australia because he's undefeated or just gets knocked first round Knockouts every time he
52:23
fights uh they want to keep that storyline going so while I do think that
52:30
happens a little bit I do think people are coerced to like judge a certain way every now and then I don't think that
52:36
happened here I think it was I think if I were the judge I would ordered for Jack Della medalletta
52:46
um but dude that guy fought him five days notice it's amazing holy [ __ ]
52:52
imagine him with a fight Camp I know get the rematch yeah but the rematch I know
52:58
and hopefully Jack doesn't jump for that Guillotine every time
53:05
oh my gosh you know what I so when I first started training I was one of
53:12
those people me too because I was just so tiny I mean I'm I'm a natural Adam
53:18
way I walked around like 112 114 and I'm training with a bunch of dudes that know what they're doing so as soon as I
53:24
learned to wrap up that Guillotine you better believe I was yeah because wrestlers run right into that [ __ ] yeah yeah and it
53:32
would work maybe if I pushed harder the joke will stop but you know and it's
53:37
something that people do at like I mean I mean sometimes I still do it I don't know whatever whatever is
53:44
ingrained in me hey if it works though then nobody's gonna talk [ __ ] exactly but it's it's one of those
53:52
um like reaction things that like young Grapplers get when they discover you know an arm bar Guillotine or something
53:58
like that they're like I'm gonna do it it's gonna work and they keep yeah and they're just gonna keep doing it keep doing it even if it's not working but
54:04
it's just um when you get tired that's when like the things that you've practiced the most kind of kick in
54:09
exactly and so that's just kind of what I saw in that moment it's like okay you
54:15
can grab it and then you know sweep you can grab it and then like use it to get up but like you can't just grab it and hold because people are gonna pass and
54:23
then they're on position you have their head and then you're susceptible to you know the
54:40
yeah it's fine you can call it that but yeah Von flu is the first one to get
54:46
it and it just like uses his booty when he does it yes yes he do OSP with blue
54:52
[Laughter] but um yeah whatever whatever you want
54:57
to call the choke everybody calls the same moves different things but that's just what I end up calling it
55:03
um but I've I've seen it when I was doing a lot of um you know calling fights doing commentary the um color
55:10
commentary I would see this a lot in the younger fighters coming up they would always grab the guillotine into my head
55:17
I'm like damn it don't do it because you just you put yourself in kind of a vulnerable position unless you have like
55:24
these go-to's but he wasn't he wasn't going to anything else yeah that was kind of getting past he was getting past
55:29
and after it doesn't work the first two times and it wasn't like the guy was luckily passing or fighting to pass he
55:37
had this beautiful little elbow cartwheel that he would hit yeah every time every time right into side control
55:44
so like his Corner yelled at him and rightfully so and then he came out and could have been a 10-8 round I think he
55:52
got to need on a couple scorecards but like dominant dominant third round after his Corner yelled at him so good job
55:58
corner too but I make grabbing to hit me I don't know you
56:04
probably have a better Australian no it doesn't matter how many times I go to Australia and how much time I've spent I
56:10
can hear me I cannot do that freaking accent hey what did they tell him in the
56:16
corner Jess my
56:27
I would love to be able to do an Aussie accent it's like I I'm like I just need to spend more time in Australia
56:34
myself in it yeah it for for Americans I feel like that is like the
56:40
most challenging accent to be able to to get yeah I I think whenever I try to do anything from like the British whatever
56:48
what do you call it the British trans whatever Queen's Lynn people or whatever
56:54
like everyone that came from the UK like Australia and New Zealand uh Scotland [ __ ] all those places anytime I try
57:01
to do one of those accents I sound like a pirate I always go Jamaican somehow I don't
57:09
know why I think I don't know probably has something to do with pirates it's historically accurate
57:17
uh but uh moving on like The Guillotines weren't working for Jack Dela Mandela
57:24
but you said it was that one you said it you know it [ __ ] me up I was like I
57:31
should just call him jack Della madadella madadella madadella you know
57:37
just keep it going and then I forgot his name no you got it you got it yeah yeah okay didn't work for him no didn't work
57:44
for Jack no but it worked for uh Myra Buena silver girl that girl snapped that
57:50
neck up quickity lickety split and you actually saw Jack go for that in the
57:56
fight and I thought [ __ ] maybe that's what clued her in like you know how you're you'll be backstage very
58:02
impressionable backstage watching fights someone gets a cool finish you're like oh I should try that I bet I bet my
58:08
opponent would be open to that I bet she saw him going up underneath and she was
58:13
like I'm pretty good at that one maybe I'll try it we'll see yeah it works dude
58:19
she snatched that neck up so good um they called it a ninja choke on
58:25
commentary is that what you call it I just call it like a weird Guillotine I think a ninja is more like this but it
58:33
was more like a yeah it's like a rear naked show it was almost
58:38
front naked I would call it like a modified Guillotine honestly clothed choke yeah you could call it again
58:45
people call different submission like the same submission different things you could call it a ninja you could call it
58:51
a modified Guillotine you could call it I don't know [ __ ] compression chamber if you want to like it's it was a joke yes just for all intents
58:58
and purposes it was a really tight impressive choke she had the you know rear naked choke kind of grip secured it
59:06
was it was mean I love that one I really love it it's so good and I always forget
59:12
about it but it's so good on people who kind of put their head in the wrong position on that takedown a lot of times
59:18
you just see people stall there like they'll they'll go for a single leg and
59:24
get stuffed they go to the double but it's not like a deep double so they're just kind of stalling out and pressuring
59:30
in and that's the perfect time to just
59:35
nice and nasty up against there it's the same I think it's the same one that uh
59:41
Juliana Pena got choked out with when she fought Jermaine the randomy yes yes yes yes so it's there it's not always
59:48
there but man if you're good at it and you know exactly when to go for it and the other thing is you can't be too
59:55
obvious about it because as soon as you start digging they know something's up they're like oh either back out or
1:00:00
finish the takedown or something so that their neck isn't compromised but if you can get your chest on top and get in
1:00:07
there and they don't see it coming until it's too late like that's awesome so that was really cool to see it was
1:00:13
really impressive yeah she she showed up yeah and uh you know what else showed up
1:00:18
the pad in a Harley home butt cheek I was thinking of you the whole time I was
1:00:24
watching this oh look at her little pretty butt cheek hanging out it was there winking at us hey girl you missed me here you miss me
1:00:32
I brought my friend too hey she's a little shy she doesn't always come out yeah you know there she is it's
1:00:38
always the right one it does it is oh it's a right cheek it is always the right shoe it must be oh my gosh she's
1:00:44
like a right leg forward fighter you need that push in and push out developed
1:00:51
yeah more calf muscle more butt cheek bold bulbousing out
1:00:57
yeah she's a flirty little thing she is she is get her under control Holly there's children watching that's not
1:01:05
about it that is why I will not wear those shorts oh man but yes it looks more fun I don't think it
1:01:12
would well it would probably look like the uh the only fans Fighters that we're
1:01:17
used to seeing not the ones that are actually fighting
1:01:22
no oh my gosh uh well well we have something else to talk about uh only
1:01:28
fans fighter was on this like what do you call it this is the Box
1:01:34
influencer boxing card and she gave a little surprise for the fans but I think
1:01:40
we should take our little break because we've had a long show today there was so much to talk about there's so much more
1:01:45
to talk about yes we could do two shows we could do two shows yeah but we're gonna break and y'all aren't gonna get
